TL;DR
I left behind a long history working towards medicine to do something I really felt passionate for. I discovered a love in creating art and helping/working with others to succeed. I got my degrees in business to further my work in project management so I could work in the arts. |
A Bit of a StoryWelcome to my personal online portfolio! Just to say a little about me, I am a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas hoping to work in a Producer position in the video game industry. A Business Administration major, my concentration was in Organizational Behavior and Human Resources, and an additional minor in Music. More specifically, I enjoy focusing on employee relationships, team/group building, and dispute resolution. I am currently a new graduate student, working towards my MBA (also at the University of Texas at Dallas).
There is an important anecdote to tell before going more deeply into this website. Originally, for years, I had been planning to go to medical school. In high school, I was a part of a program that allowed weekly shadowing opportunities to various clinics and a hospital in the area. I had never really thought of anything besides going into medicine, as I had seemed to have a knack for science. I was well on my way to applying for and going to medical school with the intent of becoming a physician. However, college always changes things. Sitting in classes for biology and chemistry, I had realized something important: science had gotten boring. I hadn't been interested in science for a while now. This, of course, led to me thinking about my future: how could I possibly work so hard to get to such an important position as a physician, only to hate waking up in the morning to go to work? I knew I could do well, but I feared sacrificing my personal happiness for job and financial security. Moreover, as a physician my mood and mental state could easily influence my treatments; I had feared that my current mindset would affect the quality of care I was putting forth. I had worked hard over the years, aiming for medical school, but I didn't want to despise what I had worked so hard to become. I began to talk to various career and academic advisers, who told me to think about my passions. I never thought video games could be a real career, however, until I talked to Dr. Monica Evans. She let me give producing a try as an Assistant Producer (which jumped up to Producer after the Producer I was placed under jumped up to Supervising Producer), and I loved the work after just a semester. Long story short: I had my college crisis. I decided to give up on a more secure lifestyle as a future doctor and take a more risky route into the video game industry, all for the sake of happiness. At the end of the day, I want to look forward to going to work. I want to enjoy putting my all into my projects. I want to love my job. I think I've figured out how.
